In recent years, Alexandra Kusmina shifted her focus from writing non-fiction and short stories to poetry. Her primary inspirations include the beat poets, T. S. Eliot, and Margaret Atwood. As an child, Alexa was proclaimed to be the reincarnation of Jim Morrison, and, while she harbors sincere doubts about that, she has always found inspiration in music, particularly Tori Amos, the 80s era 4AD bands, and modern indie rock. Her literary philosophy stems equally from Joseph Campbell's work on archetypes, her Wiccan faith, early exposure to existentialist philosophers, and her post-feminist ideology. She believes nothing should be off-limits in literature or discussion, as secrecy breeds depravity.
Having moved approximately 40 times in her life, she has journeyed from Sweden to her current abode of Colorado, where she works as an English professor; prior to that, her life led her to teach yoga at a California mountain resort, hold a hectic editing job in Los Angeles, avoid adopting a twang as she learned English in Texas, and campaign on various women's and animal rights issues.
